Tlie presses are about to roll for the Thermal Belt Chamber of Commerce’s pictorial history book, "A Sense of Heritage." Taylor Publishing Co.'s Houston plant has finished making corrections and will soon start printing the pictorial history of the Thermal Belt. The chamber will not be noti fied of an exact shipping date until just a few days before, but it is expected that books will be ready for pick-up the week of Dec. 9-13. Tentative plans arc being made to distribute the books to purchasers in alpha- betical order. If you have not purchased your copy of the pictorial his tory yet, you can still beat the publication price increase and save nearly $10 per book. N .C. 28782 Communication To the editor: For many years, Polk County has enriched my life and the life of my good friend, Emme Peb ler. This year for Thanksgiving, we would like to do something for the lonely and the less for tunate ones. With the generosity of the Columbus 4-H Center Board, they arc allowing us to use the facility to prepare and give at no cost to anyone, a, full Thanksgiving Dinner. The only requirement is that you are either alone, or a couple alone without family here, or unable to pay. Please don't be bashful or timid, if you would like to have a wonderful dinner and share a good afternoon then come and be our guest. If you are on welfare or food stamps you can pick up a free ticket for dinner wherever you are registered or at my shop. If you are a couple or alone and wish to spend the mealtime with us, please stop in my shop and pick up your free ticket. Come along and share some holiday spirit. Board Chairman, gus Hoffman says "Experienced volunteers like Bob are our.greatest asset at FENCE. —Community Reporter Book Fair Coming To Landrum High As a part of American Educa tion Week, the Landrum High School Media Center will sponsor a book fair on Nov. 21 and 22 in the Media Center from 8-3 each day. There will be a variety of paperback books, bookmarks, folders, portfolios, posters, etc. for sale. Funds raise during the book fair are used to purchase new books for the Media Center. The public is welcome and is invited to attend during school hours. 2HC Per 1 ops Sheriffs Records To Be Computerized Money for a new computer for Sheriff Boyce Carswell was found in contingency accou nts and savings over budgeted costs for jail food. A total of $5,000 was approved for a computer which will soon manage the jail records and investigation and arrest records for the sheriffs department. In other business Monday: * The board approved the hiring of a child protection officer by the Department of Social Services. The position is federally funded. * County Attorney R. Jay Foster announced that the wrongful discharge suit brought against the county by former employee Lynn Morgan has been denied on appeal. * County Manager John Lewis announced vacancies on the Green River Management Board and the tri-county health board. Commissioner John Edwards said a recreational user of the Green River is being sought for the Green River Management Board position PC Democrat Men Meet Saturday The Polk County Democra tic Men's Club will meet Sat., Nov. 23 at 8 a.m. at the Demo crat Headquarters in Columbus. All Democrat Men are invited. Biscuits and coffee will be served.
